My Thoughts, My beliefs:

I am speaking from a Christian point of view and my beliefs. So, for the free tinkers and believers/followers of other religions, this may or may not make sense to you. :P

We were created in the most wonderful way we can possibly be. We were created to enjoy the world which GOD has created, and with him. But how many times are we blinded by the worldly things, and then push GOD aside and forget about HIM?

The lust for romance, for emotional pleasure: Are people always blinded by what they think is true love, or the perfect relationship? Do people forget who they are when they're blinded in such way?

The greed for money: When exactly is enough truly enough? Why do some people spend all their lives chasing after pieces of paper, forgetting about life itself in the process?

The pleasure and fun offered by the world: Why do people drown themselves in cigarettes, alcohol & drugs? Is this truly fun? Or is it just numb?

The envious heart for the fame and beauty of the world: Why do people damage themselves (anorexia in the video) just to follow the trend of the world? Just how far would people go to get “the perfect look” and “popularity & fame”?

The despair and disappointment to the world, especially ourselves: Why do people feel emptiness in their heart? Is life truly meaningless, and are we truly so worthless that we should not live?

I believe that GOD has given us a freedom of choice to choose our paths. And whenever we choose a path towards our own destruction, HE will let us know in HIS way, and provide the guidance that we need. Just how many of times have we ignored the signs and warnings from GOD and push HIM away? Yet, HE has never left us, and is always there with us, waiting for us to come back to HIM... All we need to do is to make a choice, and HE will be there, to hold us and protect us from all that is bad, to love us and to guide us back to the right path, like always. The choice is always in our hands.... what would your choice be?

God's love and grace is truly great! But we should never, ever take things for granted.

Read, Watch and be Amazed by how much bullshit someone can give! Totally Ridiculous! And this is coming from our FOREIGN MINISTER.... Does he even know that he's contradicting himself with his replies? And I wonder what did our govn't say about taking action against those who insult and disgrace our country?

~sigh~ Just a thought, there are just too many Malaysians who live in denial. Are you one of them? And what are you doing to change that?

Negaraku Trilogy

I have decided to not put any political or radical points in this entry because I am lazy to think and do more research. So I'll KISS this entry.
*KISS - Keep it short & simple*

First, the "Mamula moon", a beautiful Hawaiian farewell/love song. The tune of the song was used as Perak's State Anthem (read wiki for more details), as well as for a popular song sung locally as "Terang bulan".

The tune was later selected for "Negaraku", the National Anthem for Federation of Malaya (1957, and no, it's not Malaysia yet), and afterward, Malaysia (1963). I still remembered the "rule": "Stand straight and be proud when you sing or hear the National Anthem!"... ah..the old days of primary schools...

Recently, a talented Malaysian studying in Taiwan, known as namewee, decided to create a song about our country, in conjunction of the 50 year celebration. By using Negaraku as part of the song, "Negarakuku" was born.

In my personal opinion, the song is quite cool. And it was a very creative for namewee to have express his thoughts and views about the country through the song, which I'm pretty sure a lot of Malaysian agrees with. Unfortunately, we have narrow minded people with political agenda that make a big issue out of it, which I guess isn't really a bad thing since it somewhat contributes to the sudden increase to the popularity of the song.

And here's the latest and newest entry of the Negaraku songs, the "Negarakukuku".

Though I prefer namewee's song, "Negarakukuku" is not bad as well. And like "Negarakuku", it also express how the composer see this country, but from a more chinese point of view. Also, for those who don't know mandarin, there really is a chinese word/charater known as "凸 - TU", which means protruding, like how the character potray. The opposite of it is "凹 - AO", which means concave. * If you have a better word, let me know. :)*

Anyway, I personally don't find anything offending about any of two latter version of the "Negaraku" series as the songs are a matter of personal opinions and views. I don't quite understand how people can get pissed with it, but for those who are, I have just one question for you: "Must you agree with my opinion & believes such that I must agree with yours? Or are we all entitled to our own opinion & believes?". Think about it.

Pizza Hut Racist!?

A Shock at Sunway Pyramid Pizza Hut

Hello everyone. I have some interesting news. I was in Pizza Hut (Sunway Pyramid) yesterday and suddenly my friend showed me the bill. The bill contains normal things la (number of person, bill. number and what is ordered). But, what shocked me is that they had space called "RACE". I guess since we were all wearing tudung, they labelled us as 0, which means MALAY. Later, when we went to pay...we had no service charge and no tax charge.

Still in shock, I peeped into another bill in the counter. In that bill, under the race space, it was labelled as C (which I guess means Chinese). That bill had service and tax charges!!!

I started investigating. One of my Sri Lankan friends was labelled as Indian it seems and she also had to pay service and tax charges a few weeks back.

What I'm wondering is that...does anyone know about this? I find it rather strange that they charge service and tax charge using race in Pizza Hut, out of all the places!

May 13 Declassified

Book name: May 13: Declassified Documents on the Malaysian Riots of 1969

Author: Dr.Kua Kia Soong, one of the BOD of SUARAM

Description: A very revealing book about May 13 incident based on declassified information from Britain

Availability: Times bookstore, I've yet to see any in Popular, MPH nor Borders. If anyone find them there, please let me know. :D

Price: RM 20.00 (it’s cheap and it’s worth it)

How the book look like:

Readership: For anyone who loved this country and hoped that this country will change for the better: A Malaysia for Malaysian (I do not believe the current malaysia is anywhere near there). Kiddos (regardless of age) that cannot think and decide things for themselves SHOULD NEVER touch this book until they're mature enough.

Known Issues with the book:

The book was taken by the authority for checking and may be banned any moment. Since there was no official announcement (as I know of at least) that the book wont' be banned, I guess the banning may still be in process. I'm guessing two possible reasons for this:

1) The authority is slow at doing their work as usual. Perhaps no one from above is giving pressure this time.

2) For once, some people are smart enough to decide not to give the book free publicity.

Comment:

I've finished this book once a few weeks ago. The book itself is not too long, but I guess some may find it boring since the book is more about facts rather than story telling. The book is written based on declassified documents from the British. The book is great because the author never once pointed a finger at any parties, but rather, he gives you the facts and let you to make your own decision on what to believe. Regardless, it is may be controversial and offending to some, depending on what your current beliefs of the incident and our govn't are. Personally, I choose to believe what is written in the book, and it would be superb if I have an opportunity to go check out the full original documents themselves.

Thoughts:

After reading the book, whenever I read/see that someone from certain parties raise about "May 13" to: try to cover up their ass / as a reply to something they can't answer / shut someone up / create tension / create fear, the impression to me is no longer : "Remember the tragedy, we must prevent it happening again..." Rather, to me, they're commanding total control or they'll start another incident again. But that's just me, you can always have your own interpretation...;)

Fraud!!!

I was targetted as a fraud case victim recently, but instead of me being the victim, the hunters were being hunted without realizing it. Though I was a bit disaapointed that the hunt didn't ended with a kill, I'm a bit glad that I have at least gotten some usable information at the end of it, which I hope can be used for the final blow on the hunter (conman in this case). For more details, just read the report below:

Introduction:

I have received calls recently which I think may very well be one of the fraud cases where the conman uses reward to cheat victims of their money. I have been trying to get hold of more details about the company by showing interest as well as giving my own details. Below is the detailed description of the experience and information gathered from the few calls I had with them. I hope that the details can help to identify the company as well as their modus operandi so clearer details can be released to the public to raise their awareness. Please do check on the company name that I have obtained, TeleSmart Communication Sdn.Bhd., mentioned in the “Observation” section.

Case:

1) Company Name: ProSent (保胜)

2) Company Profile: Hong Kong based company that sells household electrical appliances. Company is now expanding to Malaysia and is doing survey and promotion around Malaysia. They have plans to open branches all over Malaysia

3) Company Number: 03-8686 0020

4) Company Location: KLCC Tower 2 at 28th floor

5) Homepage address Given: www.pst3c.com

6) Other details:

- Received a call from private number around 3 - 4 weeks ago. A girl introduced herself as 洪惠静 (the exact name given, and she’s the one following up the calls until their “Activity Leader” took over) from China and is currently working for the company in Malaysia. The girl called to conduct a very short survey on electrical appliances. The survey was has around 5 - 6 questions, which to me, is a bit too short for a marketing type of survey.

- Received another call a week later. In this call, she mentioned about their company’s promotional event that will be held on One-Utama shopping mall during Sunday (24 June if I recall correctly), where a lucky draw will be held. There will be around 1500 prizes to be won, all sponsored by their Hong Kong Business Partner companies. Was invited to participate in the promotion event

- Received a call during the stated time of the event itself confirming my attendance. I was told that I had won the lucky draw cash prize (fourth winner of the 5 case prizes), known as 创业资金奖. The prize was cash totalled at HK$ 300,000.00, which is around RM150,000.00.

- Since I was not at the event, I was asked to come to collect my prize money within an hour. I told them I could not make it and they responded that they will contact me again another time to inform me about the prize claiming procedure.

- Received a call again from 洪惠静 that requested for my personal details. The details that I have given to them are: Name (both Chinese & English), IC.No, Birth date, Bank account number and salary. Was informed that their acvitiy leader will call me more on the details to claim the prize.

- The follow up calls from here on were made by their “Activity Leader”, known as 黄仟惠 (this name is based on PinYin, not sure if it’s the exact name). I was given more information about the company and the prize money which I have won. She justified that the company is doing this kind of publicity because they think it’s more effective and save the cost of making commercial.

- The money will be transferred through 香港外汇银行, a so called international bank in Hong Kong.

- Explained the RM150k prize money was suppose be taxed 28%, but it was waived. The reason given was that since they’re an overseas company in Malaysia, the prize money is exempted as they’re expect to pay to their own government. However, since their country authority think they’re already taxed here in Malaysia, the prize will not get taxed in their own country either. So, the tax is considered as exempted and I will get the full amount.

- However, to get the prize money, I will still need to pay insurance to ensure that the money will be transferred successfully. If there is any money lost during transaction, the insurance will pay the full amount itself.

- Two package on insurance is available, one is priced at 4% of the total prize money (non-refundable), which is around RM 6000 & the other is priced at 5.33% of the prize (refundable), which is around RM 8000. It was emphasized that the insurance company works with the bank on the transaction, and they have nothing to do with them

- It was noted to me that currently, the money is in a temporary account in the bank while waiting for transaction. I demanded for the contact and details of the bank, and was only given the bank’s 24-hour helpline – 00852 6525 9249. I was asked to call the bank up with some verification details to check for the account. I did not call the number.

- I received another call on the evening of 5 July 2006, in which she mentioned to me that she has discussed with the bank and the money can be obtained the next day at 10.00am, once I have brought the insurance that is.

- 黄仟惠 gave me her company hand phone number: 016-6072012, and mentioned that call her only within office hour as she will not pick up after that.

- I received a call from a different number 03-23821452 on Monday (9/7/07). The call was from 黄仟惠again, which in response about paying for the prize, I replied that I would like to forfeit the prize. She pressed on for the reason, which in the end I told them that I have called up KLCC and have confirm that they do not have an office there. So based on that itself I do not trust their company and ask for their registration number again. She was very angry and irritated with that statement and defended saying that that is not possible. She even offer to get me an air ticket to fly over and check up the company, which I rejected. She ended the call (hang up) by telling me that she is no longer in the mood to talk to me today and asked me to not taint the company’s name and that I should go check up on the company’s details again.

- I’ve yet to receive any calls after that call

7) Observation:

- When asked about their company registration reference number in Malaysia, they mention that they are still in the process of setting up the company here and currently do not have a registration number yet, but they already have approval from the local authority. As far as I know, this is not possible.

- Called One-U Customer Service to enquire about the event by them, but One-U staff was unable to give the info as they said they don’t keep track of details of event that has passed.

- Called KLCC and the staff there confirm that the office location they mentioned does not have such company as the whole floor is owned by another company

- Called the given office number: 03-8686 0020, but the number was engage at all the times. The number is a Time fixed number registered under this company called TeleSmart Communication Sdn.Bhd. (Reg.No.761421-H) which is located at Jalan Ampang. I am unable to get the exact address due to the usual phone company policies.

- The homepage is valid, but the registration for the homepage seems suspicious, no real company details are given and the homepage was only registered somewhere in June this year. (refer to Appendix A)

- When asked about the terms & conditions as well as black & white documents, such as receipt, they justify that each company has their own procedure in giving prize, and their company has opted to do everything to telephone, so no black and white is required. No terms and conditions are mentioned at this time

- The activity group head seems to want me to call her back rather than calling me.

- Insisted that the bank name is 香港外汇银行 and there is no English name for the bank. The bank name does not turn up in internet search results on list of banks in Hong Kong.

- When asked of the insurance agency name, they said the bank is in charge of the insurance company, and they do not have the details. Yet, the money was supposed to be banked to that insurance company.

- Though I was given the bank’s 24-hour helpline: 00852 6525 9249, I have not called the bank yet since I suspect the call will only lead me to their partners in Hong Kong, which will probably verify what they have mentioned

- The company does not accept cheque nor cash. We must directly bank in the money to the account which they will give us later. Justification from them is because the money is not given to them, but given to the insurance company

- When I mentioned I want to come to visit the company, they say it was all right, but I have to make an appointment first since at the floor where their office is at, KLCC guard will only allow visitors with appointments.

- It was also when I mentioned that I want to visit the company that they made the call about “bank is ready to make transaction the next day” a few hours later. I suspect they are trying to close me before I visit their office.

- When asked about the account which I need to bank in to, they mentioned to bank into this person call Liang Mei Ling (this is by pronunciation, not sure if the name is exactly correct). When asked why isn’t the account under the insurance/bank, they justify that all this woman is famous finance industry figure in Hong Kong and their company is currently using service by her company

- I am not able to obtain the account number of “Liang Mei Ling” as they refuse to give me until I agree to bank in the money.

- I check up the new number: 03-23821452 with Telekom, Maxis & Time but the search yield no results.

In case any of you wondering, no, I didn't get conned. And I didn't make the report to the police. Why? Well, since I'm not yet a victim, I doubt the police would take the case seriously, if they even let me lodge a report that is (I believe some of you have the same impression as me on this through your experiences). However, the report above sent to certain party, which I hope is enough for them to direct it to the right sources to catch the culprit/stop the operation.

Anyhow, the reason I'm sharing this is so that more people can be aware about this and protect themselves from such cases. So, please do share this with everyone that you know. I believe that if everyone is more aware of this, and will make the effort to research, record and report such cases, it will helps to reduces the cases that is going on in this country. *Updated on 12/8/07: It would seems that kennysia also have a similar case. His desciption on the phone conversation in that entry is exactly similar to mine, just that the company, name of personals involved (I can't believe they mentioned about accountant as well). Seems that both the company may be related as it involves the same modus operandi.

The Irresponsible Disclaimer!

I am always given the impression of "Malaysian built, but never maintain (service & standard wise)" by a lot of the local companies going around, as well as our government departments. Probably it's because how our law and authorities work in this country that have given the chance for everyone to do so, and worst, not be responsible for it.

One of such company is our country's Telco monopolizer, Telekom, which have left such a great impression that some refer them (and their services) with names like Terukom and Screamyx. This company practically came up with the "best" disclaimer to be irresponsible, which is all service they provided are provided with "Best Effort" They didn't justify their just how "best" is their "Best Effort", but I think that probably your "best" is out of their worst-best scale range by a few hundred times

With their "Best Effort" service motto, you can't blame them for anything. If your bandwidth is only at 10% of what you subscribe, they're doing their best to give what you have subscribed. If your line got a problem, they're doing their best to rectify it. If you're modem is strucked by lighting, they're doing their best to replace a new one for you (which even when they have stock and can replace it right away, it can still take up to 5 days :( ). So, whenever you have any problem with their service, they're already dealing with it with their "best effort". Remember, their best is what they term as best, not yours. With this irresponsible disclaimer around, they can shrug off your case anytime as long as they reply you with "already doing our best ....."

What is more shocking is that I recently read that they've been awarded with the Platinum award for Reader's Digest Trusted Brand (voted by consumer) for the Telecom Company Category. I just really couldn't understand how they got it. I mean, is the award even valid since in Malaysia, they're the only telco (handphone telco is a different case) around. Seriously, it's like having a beauty contest and only one contestant turn up. Would you recognize them for the award? I know I won't...

Plagiarize all you want!

Warning: Sarcasm all over the place!

One of our leaders has taken a great step to promote & legalize (sort of :P) plagiarism in Malaysia!!! And just how did he do it? By showing off his plagiarism skill to the country.

Now everyone, especially students, can plagiarize without shame. No one should ever questions anyone's right to plagiarize in this country, for our beloved minister has been spoken by his example! Superb move since plagiarism is a great way to cut your workload so you can laze around while show off your intelligence. With leaders who set cool trend (examples) like this, how could you not love this country?

Flyers

Flyers, the cheapest way of advertising, but it also contribute a lot to littering problem, especially when a lot of Proud Malaysian practices the "Boleh Buang Sampah Merata-rata" in support of “Malaysia Boleh!”.

You know, from what I have observed, quite a lot of Malaysian don’t know what to do when someone give them a flyer which they don’t want. We have a lot of very shy people that rather take the flyer, and maybe read it, then drop it within the next 20 steps or the nearest corner which the flyer giver can no longer see them.

As for people who drive a car, I’m pretty sure we all dislike people putting flyers on the windscreen. I really hate it when it is raining while there is a flyer(s) on the windscreen. The flyer will become a lump of pulp and if you did not notice and remove it before you turn on your wiper… >.<

People really should be made responsible of such flyers. Perhaps the authority should consider this rule which was implemented in my ex-university. Any flyers, buntings, banners or other publicity items that are to be distributed must be chopped and approved by the club-related department known as STAD.

So if applied at this level, it would be the “Majlis Perbandaran”(city council) implementing a rule that require people/companies who want to distribute flyer to register and get approval from them. From there onward, more rules can be make to hold the distributor responsible for improper content, cleaning up the littering (maybe charge them a cleanup fee that is based on the no. of flyers distributed?) and even damages cause by their flyers (sticking onto walls, windscreen, etc). Summons and fines should be applied to the offender.

That way, anyone who wants to distribute flyers would probably think twice before just simply dropping their flyers everywhere; or they might use a more proper channel to do it (waking up at 4 am to go stick it between newspapers). Good for the people and also the city council (extra source of income if there is a lot of offenders, and it might solve the littering problems that is caused by unwanted flyers :P) , don't’ you agree?

Let me share with you two funny flyers which I've gotten this week. On Wednesday night earlier this week, as I was going back with my friend after dinner, we spot this A4 flyer on my friend's car's windscreen. Make a wild guess what kind of thing the flyer is promoting? It was a very badly design flyer that promotes, of all things, a Pornography Website. We find it very funny and at the same time surprising. I mean, seriously, think about it: a porno homepage that needs to give out flyers (offline) to promote about it. I think probably they're going to Snail Mail you the materials later as well….

Then another case: on Thursday evening, I found this small, plain flyer on my car's windscreen:

You know, for a company that has helped over 50 million people worldwide, it’s funny that such a great company can only afford to distribute flyers (one of the, if not the cheapest way of offline advertising), and such a plain and unprofessional one too. The portion of the flyer that I blurred up contains a guy’s name and H/P number, which probably belong to the boss. I wonder, can you trust a company that has all the claims there, yet does not show the proper registered company name, address or homepage? Well, my common senses tells me that this is bad advertising, what about yours?

Apostasy in Malaysia: In a country where we have various religions, races & culture, how does it affect us?

Since I'm not too sure just how am I going to write this entry, I'm going to try something different. I'm just going to provide you guys with a few main resources (note that some article may be a bit bias, but I leave it there just for the story, not the opinion of the authors) and let you guys read and make your own judgement. And also, if you guys got better sources, please let me know. :)

I've tried to search for the consitution on our government and parliment's homepage but I can't seem to find it. So, you can either read this one or wikisource's.You can download a copy as well if you want (credit goes to dale for giving me this).

After reading all and perhaps doing your own research, what do you think? Should these things really be happening as it is? Is the constitution correctly applied into these cases? How much does these cases affect us and those around us?

As for the future of such cases, we will just have to see the Courts Decision on Lina Joy's Case this coming Wednesday. Hopefully, the decision will be one that changes Malaysia for the better. :)

This is just ridiculous (and hilarious)... but then again, coming from the Parliament in this country, there's nothing surprising to it.

Discrimination is still discrimination, be it sexist, racist or religionist... Since our leaders have always labeled discrimination as a “sensitive issue”, how can this case be taken so lightly? A non-apology apology is enough for such "joke aje la" comments. With what has happened, I guess the leaders are just trying to show us that:

1) We are encouraged to use the so called "sensitive issues" to shoot anyone in our defense against their comments.
2) If the discussion or end results offends anyone then all you need to do is label it as a joke and make a non-apology apology.
3) Everyone (including those offended) can just have a good laugh about the "joking discussion" at the end of the day. Anyone still get offended will be labeled as "not open mind".

"Great" leaders and their "leadership by example" we have in this country, don't you agree? *wink*
