Telekom? Terukom!

User photo not available Sunday, 29 April 07 - 08:50 PM (GMT +08:00)
By Lawrence Yong in General

Most people have been displeased with Telekom’s StreamyX services (in this case, the after sales support) since it's existence, me included. But I've never hated the service so much until now and I just want to rant it out!

On Thursday, the ADSL modem of the company was fried. So, I called StreamyX tech-support to report about the case, asking for a replacement of the modem as it is under warranty. After the required information has been given to the support desk, I told them the modem was fried. Do you know what was the person's reply? Of all the things/ instruction to be given out, I was asked to go plug the adapter to a power source, plug it into the modem, on the modem and see which light is not blinking...=.=" I tried to explain to them that the modem is fried, but the person refused to proceed with the other question until I go test it out.

So I just hang up and call back again, hoping to get a more intelligent support guy. The same question was asked again, even with the call after that. I don't get it. Normally, when you tell anyone that an electrical device is fried, by common sense, even a primary school kid would know that that device is not going to work even if you give it electricity. One of them even asked me to go ping local host and test if the PC's network card if working or not. I don't get it, why do I need to test out the network card when it is the modem that is fried? I understand that support desk have their procedures and scripts, but this is totally ridiculous. Anyway, the third guy was better a bit (or it could be my irritated tone) because after some dragging stuff here and there, he finally understands. So he put my case in the record and says that a technician will come in one or two working days. Since we really needed the connection, my colleague helped me to pester them to do it the next day. The most we got out of it was that the case will be put as urgent, and the will try their best to send one.

The next morning I called to confirm the time that the technician was coming, but they couldn’t confirm it. All that they can assure was that a technician has been assigned to it and the case status is now urgent. While waiting for the technician, I have gotten a replacement modem as my supervisor instructed and was trying to set it up. I have some problems with the settings as the settings for an enterprise package StreamyX is different from the usual one. Even after consulting with a few other people and friend, I was still unable to set it up successfully. So I called Telekom again (around 1+) to ask about the technician, they confirmed that the technician has been assigned and should be there in the evening, exactly who, when and what’s the technician contact, they replied that they do not know (from my exp, normally we can get the technician’s contact, so this is a bit unusual). All they did was mentioned that the technician will call me.

Since I was hoping to set the modem before the technician come, I asked for the instructions, but the help desk said that only the technician knows how to set up the modem.  So I requested them to just connect me with a technician to get the list of instruction to set up the router, but they refuse. It seems that they're not allowed to do that. In the end, the helpdesk cannot help me with anything except to change the status of the case from urgent to very and just asked me to just wait for the technician to come. So, I can do nothing but wait while testing out different settings on the modem.

My testing with the modem didn’t yield any results, except more ways of not working. There seems to be some settings between the PC and modem that I do not know how to set to make it work. So I called again (by now, this is the 7/8 call already. The time of 4++ pm) and they told me the technician should be on the way and asked me to just wait. Another call a while later and they asked me to wait until 6pm for the technician, and if he doesn’t come, then I have to come and wait for him the next day (my office don't’ work on Saturday). When asked for the name and contact number of the technician, they couldn’t give me either… At the end of the day, the technician never did appear, nor called.

So I call them again, and was given the same bullshit assurance that the technician will come the next day. To be sure, I call them again at night to pester them about it, but the most the help desk can do was to put a time and hope that the technician will come then. So I went to the office and waited. A few more calls and now they tell me they cannot reach the technician. He never did appear nor call even when I go back at noon. Wasted my whole Saturday morning. The last call assured me that the technician will come on Monday, but well, I doubt I can trust that, can I?

I’m very fed up with Telekom’s attitude of doing their best effort (by that, they probably mean best of their worst effort, even for your streamyx connection). Just because our Govn’t decided to be and let them monopolize the market doesn’t mean they should just take things for granted. I mean they’re not even a company that actually made any effort to monopolize the telephone business (not including handset lines) and they’re taking things for granted. Look at Microsoft, though I know a lot of people don’t like the fact that MS is monopolizing the OS market at the moment, they are where they are because they provided their best and outdo their competitor. And even when they’ve sort of monopolized the market, they’re still striving to make their products and service better.

Why can’t Telekom just try to learn from companies that are better? All Telekom do is just talk about improving their services and re-branding it so people can forget about their old lousy image. And I doubt the new image (after re-branding) has made any difference at all, perhaps they should consider rebranding to Terukom? If they truly want to improve, then they should at least put some effort into their action (or in this case, services). If they continue with their current crappy services, then I really can’t wait for the day when Govn’t at last implement the open trade, allowing the giant competitors (other telephone companies from overseas) to come in, and eat Telekom alive! Who knows, maybe by the end of the year, some private companies will be offering a better service and grab a portion of Telekom’s customers away already…the day when Malaysian at last have a better option. ;)

---------

Update at 9.30pm: I just called again, and you know what they tell me now? They said there wasn't any available technician on Friday and Saturday, and only now that they give me the phone number of the technician because previously, no technician has accepted the case. Why did they asked me to wait on both Friday and Saturday then? Why did they tell me that a technician has already been assigned? You know what's worst? They just told me that since the company is using enterprise package, any problems was suppose to be solved within one day, which was last Friday!!! Argh....Really feel like slapping someone right now!

Update at 10.05pm: I just called the technician assigned to confirm the time he's coming tomorrow. He doesn't know anything about the case nor he was assigned to it....=.= WTH!!! Called the Tech Support again, they say the technician might have not be updated with the latest info so I should call back tomorrow morning, fine! But somewhat in the conversation, I also found out that it was written in the report that the modem is going to be replaced ononly on Monday, and there was no record about technician coming on Saturday. So WHY THE HELL they asked me to come on Saturday!!! ARGH!!! SCREW TERUKOM!!!

Update on 3 May: After a few more days of frustration and more calls, the Telekom guy finally come on Thursday evening. =.= Superb serivce we have in Malaysia. Malaysia Memang Boleh! :(

A Fresh Start: The Next Stage of Life

A Fresh Start:

I have decided to start a blog today. The idea has been on my mind for quite a while now and today I’ve finally decided to really start it. I shall start with the first post with some updates on me. :D

The Recent Past:

After industrial training, which was also my final trimester, I’ve decided to take a 2 months break to sort out my thoughts and life while testing out something with a friend. Things didn’t work out as planned and I was sort of drag back into a state of confusion. I decide to extend my break a bit longer while I sort my thoughts and life out. But things keep getting draggy and by the time I decided to work, I’ve already been taking a break for almost four months now. I wasn’t really too productive during that four months, and yeah, I got a lot of people who was surprise that I was still bumming around at home. :P Anyway, at least the four months didn’t get wasted since I’ve sorted part of my thoughts out. So, this will be a fresh start for me, as like all others, I’m about to go into the next stage of my life, “The Working World”.

The Starting Point:

I left for KL around three weeks ago on 20 March, Tuesday. I have two interviews with two different companies arranged earlier with the help of a friend and a relative. The first interview is on Wednesday, for the job of an Implementation Consultant for a HR System company, while the other is on Thursday, for the job of IT Executive for an engineering company. I would say that I did pretty well in both the interviews in my opinion, and I got both the offers. The offer is overall the same, except for the job scope, so in the end I decided to take the offer for the IT Executive as I believe that I have more potential to grow in the long run. I was taken for a tour in the company’s main office in KL, where I will be based. It was great getting a chance to meet my colleagues before starting to work one week later. As for now, I will be staying at my aunt’s place momentarily till I can find my own place. Well, cheers and thank God to a good start. :D

Malacca Trip:

I've decided to spend a few days in Malacca before I start my working life, to clear up some items with MMU, to get some updates on ITS, to meet up with some old friends, and of course, to enjoy the last installment of the TriNite Trilogy event, Trinite 2007: The Last Temptation. I went down Malacca on Monday, 26th March and spent about 6 days there (went back KL on Sunday). Met up with more than 20 people throughout my trip there...I have appointments with friends during almost all my breakfast, lunch, tea breaks, dinner & supper. I also met up with quite a few of the lecturers and MMU staffs who've taught or work with me. It was really nice meeting up with them and catching up, really make me miss my uni life there especially the long supper sessions which brought back much memories of the junior years. *sniff* Anyway, TriNite was quite a blast. For those of you who don't know what is TriNite, it's my Uni's most magnificent ball in my opinion (thanks to the committee for making that happened), which started two years ago when I proposed the idea of collaborating three faculty Proms into one grand ball. It is really great that I am able to attend all three times of t, seeing it stated, grow and then end. This year, we have Joey G & Marion together as the MCs, which was awesome. The rest of the performances by the local celebrities were very good as well. The only draw back was that there seems to be no slow dance session at the end of the event. Overall, it was still great and I would like to congras the committees on the success of the event. The trip was superb and I believe that meeting my :) friends and recalling parts of my uni life has done me a great boost to my own spirit after the long break. I was thinking that I should've plan another trip down earlier, before even going for the interview. So that's about the summary of my trip. I know it's a bit short but I'm just lazy. And sorry that there are no photos though, since I don’t have a camera... anyone care to sponsor me one? :P

The First Day at Work:

Monday, 2nd April - Well, I've officially started the first day of my working life after the long break. So, officially, I just got employed today! Hehehe... :)

End of the Fist Week:

Well, just starting to get used to the working life. Been doing a lot of read up and research as well as learning and planning and drafting how to handle the company’s IT Assets. Learnt a couple of basic stuff on the server from the staff of the outsourced IT company, Chris, who is currently maintaining most of the IT assets in the company. It’s been a fine week so far.

Well, that’s about the update for this entry. :D
